ALTERED TO CARBINE CONFIGURATION. Cal. 45-70. S# 510265. Bbl. shortened to 22" carbine length. Pinned white bead blade front sight on brazed attached base. Buffington rear sight. "1884" dated low arch breechblock. U.S. Springfield marked lockplate. Model 1888 type 1-piece trigger guard with stacking swivel removed. Stock is shortened to carbine length with 1 remaining band. Steel trapdoor buttplate and inletted sling swivels. Ramrod hole in forearm is plugged. Forearm and wrist of stock have added hand checkering. CONDITION: metal retains 90% reblued finish showing areas of remaining pitting most prevalent on the breechblock, top tang, and lockplate. Sanded wood has a dark refinish showing small marks. Sound action. Bore is bright with strong rifling showing a few small spots of light pitting. (01-27818/DS). ANTIQUE. $700-1,100.
