RIFLE. Cal.30-06. S# 1269034. Bbl. 30". These heavy barrel target rifles were produced at Springfield Armory between 1922 and 1930. They were used both by the military and by civilian match shooters who desired extreme accuracy at long range. The serial number on the receiver indicates a manufacture date of 1925. The rifle is fitted with a Lyman 48 receiver sight graduated to 125 points. The sight has matching numbers, small knobs and a flip up aperture. It is also has an accessory screw in disk 11/16" in diameter. The Lyman blade front sight is dovetailed into a base adapted at the arsenal from the Browning automatic rifle. Scope bases are fitted to the receiver ring and behind the barrel band with a 7 1/4" center to center spacing. The bolt is in the white and has a small gas hole. Bolt handle is marked "M L 3". Extractor has gas hole. Headless cocking piece. Reversed safety. Unmarked walnut stock. Forend is retained by one band equipped with swivel. Pistol grip butt with checkered cup buttplate and bottom swivel. CONDITION: stock has nice original finish with very light wear and scattered small handling marks. Small area of replaced wood behind rear sight barely visible except on very close examination. Metal retains around 80% of its original blue with small areas of light wear. Bore is shiny but with lightly worn lands and the appearance of light frosting in grooves. (24-4757/RW). CURIO. $1,200-1,800.
