MUSKET. Cal. 71. NSN. Bbl. 40 1/2". Lock marked "Nre Rle / de St. Etienne". 3 Band walnut stock w/ iron fittings & button tipped ramrod. Left ear of stock is stamped "J.C. BERTAIL / G.". "J.C. BERTAIL" marking also found on toeline behind trigger guard. Sideplate bar is stamped "NC". Dished portion on left side of stock has deeply cut number "5" w/ "H" stamped at it's center. Left side forward of buttplate stamped "22". Right side of stock has discernable St. Etienne roundel. CONDITION: metal shows evidence of cleaning & shows light mottled gray brown patina. Stock has dark worn appearance w/ dents & handling marks having a crack forward of buttplate. Lightly pitted bore. (01-18393/DS). ANTIQUE. $600-1,000.
