Cal. 52. S# 3031. 5000 of this improved rimfire carbine were made and delivered to army in 1865, most after hostilities but continued in service for occupation forces. Carbine is mostly identical to 1863 percussion version with 21" barrel, Starr address on top & lock"STARR ARMS CO / YONKERS NY" & patent on rear of breech. Design was modified to incorporate cartridge firing pin, cartridge extractor, & with a redesigned shorter straight hammer. This example is iron-mounted, with all correct sights and markings. CONDITION: good to very good overall. Metal is cleaned & overall a mottled gray scattered staining & pitting, markings all crisp & easily discerned except barrel address with is worn and barely discerned. Stocks refinished with old varnish finish. Mechanics fine, good rifled bore. (01-27239/JS). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
