PHOTOGRAPHS. 1) STATE OF MARYLAND CERTIFICATE IN FRAME. Frame measures approx. 20" x 21 1/2". Certificate is an appointment in Troop A of the Maryland National Guard dated 1907. CONDITION: certificate is badly deteriorated. Frame show heavy wear. (02-13670/BF). 2) PANORAMIC PHOTO OF THE 50TH INFANTRY. Frame measures 38 1/2" x 9" & depicts the 50th Infantry honoring the flag. Photo is inscribed, “OUR FLAG. BE IT RIGHT OR WRONG. MAY IT ALWAYS BE RIGHT. 50TH INF. HONORING THE FLAG. MAYEN, GERMANY Sept. 25, 20.”. Photo is signed “#7704. B.E. Hockenbery / DUNCANNON, PA.”. CONDITION: photograph is a bit faded from time but substantially clear. There is 1 noticeable discoloration spot not affecting the image. Frame shows light to moderate wear. (02-13672/BF). 3) 4 FRAMED MILITARY PHOTOS. 1. 31 1/2" x 21 1/2" Wooden frame housing twelve 3"x5" photographs from Lt. George Dreher’s service in the Philippines from 1899-1901. Frame also includes 2 subdued National Guard of Washington buttons & a Spanish American War Veterans medal. 2. 33" x 9" Frame housing a photograph titled, “CAMP OF US TROOPS ON THE MEXICAN BORDER. NEAR CALEXICO, CALIF.”. 3. 44 1/2" x 11 1/4" Photograph titled, “Co. A. 4th Batt. 2nd Group.”. Photo is dated in the corner 11-27-18. 4. 53" x 12" Frame housing a photograph titled on a brass plaque attached to the frame, “Co. D AND Co. E 418TEL.BN. S.C. LA MANS, FRANCE JUNE 4, 1919 A.E.F.” CONDITION: panoramic photos show light fading but are in solid condition. Metal & buttons show light wear. (02-13673/BF). 4) SPANISH AMERICAN WAR SOLDIERS MEMORIAL. A frame, measuring 24 1/2" x 21” containing a soldier’s memorial in black & white for Troop L of the 2nd Regiment of US Volunteer Cavalry otherwise known as Torrey’s Rough Riders. Torrey is credited w/ originating the idea of Rough Rider regiments. 3 Regiments were formed & while Teddy Roosevelt’s regiment was charging up San Juan Hill, Torrey’s regiment was stuck in Mississippi awaiting horses & orders. The regiment suffered losses but none at the hands of the enemy. Disease & a train accident claimed several lives. CONDITION: memorial has staining particularly at the upper right corner & shows noticeable fading. (02-13674/BF). 5) SPANISH AMERICAN WAR SOLDIERS MEMORIAL. A frame, measuring 30 1/4" x 24" containing a soldier’s memorial in black & white for Company M of the 1st Regiment Washington Volunteer Infantry. The Washington Volunteer Infantry served in the Philippines although they arrived subsequent to the secession of hostilities w/ Spain. The unit later took part in the Philippine-American War. The 1st Washington Volunteer Infantry was formed in Tacoma, Washington in 1898. CONDITION: memorial remains crisp & undamaged. (02-13677/BF). 6) CAVALRY PHOTOS & EPHEMERA. A lg. lot of varied ephemera mostly relating to early cavalry units. There are photographs of cavalry units in the field, photos of officers in dress uniform, period & modern postcards depicting military scenes including officers under Custer’s command, Indians & much more. CONDITION: most items show light wear & images remain quite sharp. (02-13701/BF). 7) CAVALRY COMPANY PHOTO. A framed unit photo of a cavalry company in full uniform w/ enlisted men holding Patton sabers & officers holding the M1902 saber for all officers. A sign in the photo appears to indicate this is Company K of the 3rd Regiment. Frame measures 23 1/2" x 11". CONDITION: frame shows light to moderate wear. Photo is slightly faded but is quite interesting & shows notable details. (02-13703/BF). 8) BOOK TITLED “THE BATTLE OF MANILA BAY”. A fine example of the well known Spanish American War era book, “The Battle of Manila Bay” by William W. Galt. The brown leather covered, 125 pg. book was copyrighted in 1900 by the author in Norfolk, Va. It is signed by the author & dedicated to a friend. CONDITION: book is slightly tattered at the edges of the soft leather binding. Gold embossed cover remains quite clear & attractive. Spine is a bit loose but intact. Pages are complete.
