ACTION ARMY REVOLVER WITH MATCHING FACTORY BOX & COLT ARCHIVE LETTER. Cal. 44 Special. S# 357057. Bbl. 5 1/2". Single Action Army revolver mfg. by Colt in 1940. "THE 36 CALIBERS OF THE COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY" by David M. Brown Page 82 states that only 506 revolvers were mfg. in this caliber. Left side of the bbl. is marked "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .44 SPECIAL", with Colt's single line address marked across the top. Left side of the frame is marked with Colt's -line patent information, followed by the Rampant Colt logo. Aforementioned markings are pleasing highlighted in white grease pencil. Frame features a case color hardened finish, with remaining metal components exhibiting a blue finish overall. Trigger is nitre blued, with the sides of the hammer being polished in-the-white. Frame is mounted with 2-piece Colt checkered black hard rubber grips. Blade front sight with frame notched rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, trigger guard, and rear grip strap (both appropriately numbered on the right side beneath the grip panel). Grips are matching via the full S#, which is inscribed on the interior of the panels. Matching assembly # "811" is present on the frame (beneath right grip panel) as well as on the loading gate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Colt factory letter dated June 23rd of 1960 indicating "Calibre .44 Spec./ Barrel Length 5 1/2"/ Finish Blue/ Type of Stocks Not Listed/ Sold & Shipped to: J. Warshal & Sons/ Address Seattle, Wash./ Date of shipment March 22, 1940/ Number of guns/ in this shipment. one". This example is also accompanied by its original factory box, which matches via the full S# in pencil on the underside of the bottom panel. Box is appropriately marked with a "SPECIAL" end label on the lid with a proper label also present on the body. Box contains an unmarked disassembly tool. CONDITION: exceptional. Frame retains vibrant case coloring, with a few minute superficial handling marks. Loading gate shows minor fading. Blued parts are excellent, retaining nearly all of their original factory finish, showing some very light edge wear. Grip straps show very light to light freckling. Cyl. bears a light dragline, which has not broken the bluing. Cyl. base pin shows moderate thinning from previous disassembly. Mirror bore, exhibiting what appears to be some light scratches, while retaining sharp and well defined rifling throughout. Grips show a few minor handling marks and light scratches, but are otherwise excellent. Box exhibits moderate exterior wear, showing losses to its black outer label, with taped repairs present on all 4 corners of the lid. Box shows a loss at the right side of the end label. A stunning first generation Colt Single Action Army revolver that one would find to be extremely difficult to upgrade from. PROVENANCE: The Esteemed Norm Greenberg Collection. (25-4140/MLW).
