CASE. Cal. 12 Ga. 2-1/2". S# 5057 (1882). The 30" sleeved barrels are engraved "Stephen Grant 67. St James's Street London" and "1" on slightly raised narrow game rib. Barrel flats are stamped with Birmingham nitro proofs for 2-1/2" chambers and "SLEEVED". Case hardened top lever action is of bar in wood 3rd Purdey type and fitted with bar locks holding tall serpentine rebounding hammers. Action and locks are near fully engraved with well cut small scroll, maker's name is on each lockplate. Trigger plate has small ball finial and trigger guard is engraved with scroll on bow and S# on tang. Well marbled and lightly fiddle figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 15" over brown leather covered pad. Stock features drop points, point pattern grip checkering and a vacant silver oval. Matching splinter forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .728. R .740. Restriction: L .034 (full). R .017 (mod). Wall thickness: L .032. R .029. STOCK: DAH: 2-1/8". DAC: 1-3/8". CAST: about 3/4" off. LOP: 15". WEIGHT: 7 lb. 0 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: gun is housed in vintage leather case with brass plate on top engraved "H.K. Croasdale" "Warwick". Interior is lined in red cloth and a reproduction Grant label is in lid. Case contains cleaning equipment. CONDITION: good as restored. Barrels retaining over 90% blue done at time of sleeving. Action and locks are lightly cleaned to silver gray brown over some light scattered pitting. Trigger guard is heavily cleaned to silver. Stocks have an older oil refinish with scattered marks. Checkering re-run somewhat haphazardly especially at grip which shows repair. This repair does not flex. Bores are bright and shiny. Action is tight. Locks are good. Case is fair to good. Very dark and with many rubs. Straps and handle are good but tired. Interior cloth is soiled with many dark stains and rubs. Good shootable best hammer guns are fairly scarce. (01-25962/MGM).
