BY HEYER & CO. OF NAIROBI, KENYA. Cal. 6.5x54MS. S# 17706. The 24" tapered round barrel is fitted with one standing four folding leaf express rear sight. Matted leaves are marked for 100, 200, 300, 400 & 500 yds. and are inlaid with silver lines. German silver bead front sight is in standard sleeved on ramp. Barrel and action are stamped with 1926 Vienna nitro proofs. Top of barrel is engraved "SPECIALLY MADE FOR CHAS. A. HEYER & CO". Typical Mannlicher Schoenauer action is marked "MADE IN AUSTRIA" and with model on stippled receiver ring; Steyr markings are on side wall. Bolt with matching S# on root is stamped with crowned "V" proof. Standard trigger has been fitted with screw device making an adjustable single stage pull. Rifle takes down by removing magazine and front pin and toggling release lever in front of trigger guard; barrel and action then lift out of stock. Pistol grip stock of relatively plain European walnut features pop-up tang rear sight, removable horn grip cap with trap, usual steel buttplate with trap (cleaning rod in trap), right hand cheekpiece along with checkered grip and forend. Rifle is fitted with Griffin & Howe leather sling. CONDITION: fine as partially refinished. Barrel and action retain over 70% original blue with some light freckling overall. A good amount of temper blue remains on bolt stop. Stock retains nearly all old oil refinish; checkering correctly re-cut. Bore is good with strong rifling throughout; dark in grooves. Mechanically fine. Sling is good. A really cool African rifle in a very popular caliber. (25-2474/MGM). CURIO. $2,500-4,500.
