MARLIN 1881 RIFLE EX. WES ADAMS COLLECTION Cal. 40-65. S# 22820. This high condition rifle is fitted with an extremely rare 30” octagonal to round heavy barrel with full magazine, sporting bead front sight, fire blue semi buckhorn rear sight, Lyman No. 15 windage tang sight with rigid stem & folding eyepiece. The case-colored action is hand engraved with a pattern that most closely matches the grade 2 styling and was likely engraved by John Ulrich. The right side features a vignette containing a detailed forest scene with a bull moose in stride. The space surrounding is decorated with arabesque scroll terminated with straight line and fancy chip borders that continue to the upper and lower receiver areas. The left side holds a vignette containing the head of a bull moose and adorned with matching pattern scroll and borders. The serial number is encircled with a splash of engraved geometric & scroll designs. It is mounted with an attractive walnut stock set that is factory checkered in the B pattern with a serpentine pistol grip and finalizes with a case-colored smooth curved steel buttplate and forearm cap. CONDITION: Overall, an extremely fine rare rifle with 95%+ original blue showing some light high edge wear, mild thinning and a few minor handling marks. The frame retains a very nice 90% coverage of the factory case colors with some light fading on the top and the bottom fading to silver. The lever has very nice case coloring while the hammer and buttplate have faded. The stock set still has very good original finish showing some mild handling marks. The bore is bright and shiny with nice sharp rifling. PROVENANCE: Ex- Wes Adams Collection, Spectacular example from the William Blount Collection of extraordinary Marlins. (01-25285/ZAL). ANTIQUE. $20,000- 30,000.
