PISTOL. Cal. 7.65mm. S# 1809. Bbl. 3". Super desirable Armand Gavage pistol whose production started in Belgium before WWII and continued during German occupation. According to Jan C. Still, "AXIS PISTOLS", page 92, approx. 1,500 were utilized by the occupying Germans and marked with test proofs. This example is right in the middle of the accepted German range. The S#, on the right side, is marked on the rear of the bbl., slide, and frame. Each of these parts is marked with a corresponding German army test proof. Fitted with hard rubber grips, the top with intertwined "AG" initials over a checkered bordered field. Bottom release nickeled mag. with 6-indicator holes and a fixed floorplate. MAGS: 1 7-rd. CONDITION: 99% as professionally refinished with sharp edges, flat planes, and correct bluing tone. Near excellent original grips. VG mag. with significant insertional wear and age related losses/discoloration. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Correct manual mechanics. A wonderful appearing pistol, virtually indistinguishable from a gun with original finish. (25-4236/LMA). CURIO. $2,000-3,000.
