THE 50TH PENNSYLVANIA INFANTRY. This exceptionally intricately carved folk art cane measures just over 34" in length, and nearly the entire surface is carved with the units and battles of Private Henry Levengood, a teamster of Company B of the 50th Pennsylvania Infantry. The cane is dated "1889" which is quite likely when Levengood carved the cane, possibly for a GAR or local reunion. The cane is also carved with his complete unit information along with a plethora of battles in which he fought or otherwise participated along with the dates of the battles. Notable battles carved on the cane include, Port Royal, Bull Run, Centerville, Fredericksburg, Siege of Knoxville, and many many more. It is interesting to note that his name appears in various records as Lebengood and Levengood, but the cane is carved "LEVENGOOD" so we assume that is the correct spelling. CONDITION: very solid condition with expected light wear. (02-26291/BF). NON-GUN. $600-900.
