POCKET PISTOLS WITH FOLDING TRIGGERS IN THEIR ORIGINAL CASE WITH ACCESSORIES. EX. W. KEITH NEAL COLLECTION. Cal. 50 smooth bore. S# NSN. These good quality pistols were probably sourced from the trade and retailed by John Manton's successors around 1840. They have 3" octagon barrels which are one piece with frames. Frames are fitted with flat faced serpentine side hammers with stylized dolphin heads. Back sliding safeties are fitted. Hinged and blued triggers extend when hammers are cocked. Under ribs are fitted with blued bridled steel ramrods. Top flats are engraved "John Manton and Son Dover Street". Actions are very nicely engraved with clean cut open scroll within double feather borders. Bag grips have very closely spaced checkering, silver crest plates on backs are engraved "S". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: guns are housed in their original mahogany case with key lock and brass medallion on lid. Interior is lined with green cloth and a small John Manton and Son paper label in lid is of the type used 1824-40. Case is fitted for guns and accessories that include small red Morocco leather covered three cavity flask, brass and rosewood cleaning and loading rods. There are three covered compartments, one holds nutcracker ball mould marked "40", and ebony handled nipple wrench. Another compartment holds lead balls. The third holds patches. Original W. Keith Neal Collection tag "C118" is attached to knob of largest covered compartment. CONDITION: very fine retaining over 90% original finishes on both wood and metal. Bores are bright and shiny, mechanically crisp. Case is also very fine with some scratches and marks on exterior. Interior cloth is very good with fading and compressions. Label is lightly foxed and has one deep compression from contact with hammer screw. Accessories are generally fine. (01-21909/MGM). ANTIQUE. $6,000-10,000.
