FALLING BLOCK RIFLE. Cal. 225 Win. S# 6875. Bbl. 25 7/8" tapered (1.040" to .787") target weight marked "MORRISON / BANGOR, MAINE" (Maine's best known gunsmith) with Unertl style target blocks at proper 7.2" spacing; plain, flat crown. Mfg. first part of 1887 with flat mainspring. Beautifully case colored receiver and parts with only markings being a clear serial number. Extraordinary stock set by Julian Nagorski (per consignor) with business name of "Iksrogan"; Nagorski spelled backwards so not to be confused with "Ski's" (gun distributor) who operated in the same area (Ottisville, PA). Straight comb and raised cheekpiece plus steel grip cap and checkered Winchester Model 70 steel buttplate having widows peak (both with indexed screws); 14" LOP. Wonderfully shaped beavertail forend with wrap around checkering. Great wood to metal fit with fine checkering; 20 LPI. Caliber introduced by Winchester for the Model 70 in 1964 and last catalogued in 1972; performance approximates 22-250 but with a semi-rimmed case making it suitable for single shot rifles. Great varmint / target rifle needing only the target scope of your choice. CONDITION: some faint superficial stock marks but generally near excellent with wonderful appearance plus near excellent bore. (01-25495/NW). ANTIQUE. $1,250-1,750.
