SHOTGUN BY JOSEPH DEFOURNY. Cal. 12 Ga. 2-3/4"/9.3x74R. S# 9550. The 25-1/4" demi-bloc barrels are fitted with full length solid matted rib holding flip-up rear and silver bead front sights. Top shotgun barrel is engraved "Fait par Jos. Defourny" "Fabricant a Herstal". Barrels are stamped with Belgian nitro proofs with date code for 1931. Gray finished, deep double Kirsten O/U sidelock action features non-automatic safety and double triggers. Action is engraved with full coverage well cut varying size shaded scroll within scroll borders. Scroll is accented by open arched devices on lockplates and relief carved laurel leaves on fences. S# is on scroll engraved trigger guard tang. Retailer's name ("Goeury Freres" "NANCY" is on top lever). Straight grip buttstock made of very nicely marbled and lightly fiddle figured European walnut measures 14-1/8" over checkered wood butt. A small incised carved monogram of some sort is at rear of comb. Point pattern checkering is at grip and a sling loop is on toeline (loop removed from barrel). Matching downswept short one piece ejector forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: O .730. Restriction: O .038 (Extra Full). Wall thickness: O .023. STOCK: DAH: 2-5/8". DAC: 1-1/4". CAST: about 1/2" off. LOP: 14-1/8". WEIGHT: 7 lb. 9 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: combo is housed in brown vinyl Browning case which contains two keys. CONDITION: fine as partially refinished. Barrels retaining nearly all of what appears to be original blue but is most likely a fine quality re-blue applied over some scattered marks and dings. Action retains most of its original French gray finish with some silver highlights. Stocks retain most of their original oil finish with a good scattering of light and heavy marks. Checkering shows considerable wear. Shotgun bore is bright and shiny. Rifle bore is fine with strong rifling throughout; somewhat frosted in grooves. Action is tight. Barrels are on face. Ejectors are strong and in time. Case is good. An incredibly well made and embellished homely gun. (23-6999/MGM). CURIO. $2,000-3,000.
