BOLT ACTION MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 7.5x55 Swiss. S# 296589. Serial numbers match on receiver bbl., bolt, and mag. Bbl. 30 5/8". Tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. Blade front sight. Bbl. marked "P" on the left side, indicating a private purchase. These rifles were rebuilt from Model 1889/1896 to Model 1911 standards. A pistol grip was added to the straight stock. The heavy buttplate was retained, and a new, wider floorplate was fitted to the mag. well to accept the 1911 mags. Bolt was fitted with red composite upper and lower knobs. Bayonet lug and stacking bar are present. Walnut stock set. MAGS: 1 Detachable 6-rd. CONDITION: stock is well worn, with numerous scattered handling marks. There is a small crack behind the receiver tang and on the right side of the handguard. There is an additional inletted walnut repair between the rear of the trigger guard tang and the front of the added pistol grip. Metal retains 50% of its original blue finish with thinning and wear. Areas of light oxidation plus areas of dried varnish-like coating. The composite bolt knob is chipped and cracked. Very good, shiny bore. PROVENANCE: from the Lifelong Collection of Terrence McCarty.
