SABER. Nice “attic condition” saber with 35” blade with full firm mark on ricasso “THOMAS, GRISWOLD & Co / NEW ORLEANS”. Brass mounted iron scabbard is not Griswold manufacture but fits well. Among the best made saber in the South. Several generals carried this sword including one Union General who captured and carried one. CONDITION: very good overall, gray blade, a few letters weekly struck in makers name as usual, uncleaned olive/dark mustard patina to brass hilt. Grip retains about 30% thin leather veneer incomplete tight twisted wire wrap, missing protective washer, so slightly loose. scabbard is sound, steel body pitted and painted black, brass sword rings polished bright.
