In 1855, a unique sculptured lead pattern of the rampant colt was produced as a benchmark & reference for the rampant colt trademark. The book "The Rampant Colt" by R. L. Wilson tells the story of this iconic trademark. For years, the sculpture was stored in the Colt Armory attic before it eventually left the company's possession. In 1968, Mr. Thomas Haas purchased this historic sculpture. Several prominent collectors asked Mr. Haas to cast a limited number of rampant colts from the original pattern. A total of 100 numbered bronze rampant colts were cast in the pattern of the original. The colt is 19" high & 20" long, standing on a cast bronze base. Brass presentation plate marked "The Rampant Colt. 16 of One Hundred". Issue price in 1969 was $1,500. WEIGHT: approx. 45 lbs. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: a copy of "The Rampant Colt. by R. L. Wilson". Chapter VI discusses the history of the original lead pattern & the scarce castings. CONDITION: fine. The cast base shows some age-related green verdigris. (02-21325/DS). NON-GUN. $8,000-12,000.
