NAMBU SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 8mm Nambu. S# 6849. Bbl. 4 3/4". Modified Model 1902 "Papa" Nambu semi-automatic pistol mfg. at the Tokyo Artillery Arsenal. The frame is marked with the Tokyo Artillery Arsenal insignia over the chamber, with Kanji characters denoting "Army Type" (even though the "Papa" Nambu was never adopted by the Imperial Japanese Army) above the S# on the right. Frame is stamped with an Interarms import mark on the right and on the rear grip strap. Frame and bbl./bbl. extension exhibit a blue finish, with some small parts being strawed. Bolt, firing pin, and locking block are cleaned and polished in-the-white. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips, retained by 2 reproduction grip screws. Dovetailed blade front sight, with V-notch tangent rear sight, graduated 1-5. Nearly all parts are matching and include the frame, trigger guard, mag. latch button, bbl./bbl. extension, ejector, locking block, bolt, striker spring guide, as well as the grips. Firing pin is mismatched. MAGS: 1 non-matching (S# "360") mag. CONDITION: metal components retain fair to good amounts of their original blue finish, showing wear, light surface oxidation, and varying degrees of pitting overall. Grip straps show areas of heavy pitting. Strawed parts retain good amounts of finish, showing wear, areas of age related discoloration, and some pitting. Right side of mag. latch button exhibits heavy pitting at the rear. Bore exhibits consistent mild pitting and some patches of moderate pitting, while retaining fair to good rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, with some chipping along edges. Right panel exhibits a chip at the mag. latch slot, as well as crack extending downward from the aforementioned slot. Mag. shows a mottled gray patina and scattered areas of pitting, with the aluminum plug having been cleaned at one time. (25-3510/MLW). CURIO. $1,500-2,250.
