Cal. 577. NSN. Bbl. 39 3/8" rnd. Barleycorn front sight w/ 800 yd. folding leaf rear sight. Top bbl. flat has "W.L.S" marking w/ number "25" & British proofs on left side. Toeline of stock is stamped "W L Sargant" w/ acceptance marks behind trigger guard. W. L. Sargant was a commercial Birmingham firm. Lock is marked "1862 / TOWER" forward of hammer w/ crown behind hammer. 3 Band fastened full length walnut stock. Brass fittings include musket buttplate, trigger guard, side plate escutcheons & nose cap. Nipple protector is hung from trigger guard swivel by chain. Slotted tipped iron cleaning rod. Consignor states this rifle was family owned dating back to Civil War era. CONDITION: bbl. shows dull lightly faded blue showing spots of surface corrosion. Lock has faded to brown. Stock has moderately worn original finish showing dents & scratches. Sound lock. Bore has sound rifling w/ slightly darkened appearance. (01-17999/DS). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,800.
