The French Army did not have an advanced machine to fill their feed strips for the Hotchkiss Model 1914, due to the large rim of the 8mm Lebel round. The Turkish Army had a variant chambered in 8mm Mauser, and utilized this dedicated filling machine to simplify the task. They were manufactured by Hotchkiss for export to Turkey. It resides in its original steel chest, measuring approximately 17.75" x 8.5" x 3.75". The chest utilizes a pair of brass hinges in the rear w/ a brass hasp at the front, and a folding brass handle on 1 side of the chest. The loader used a hardwood base that was clamped to a desk or bench & an assortment of steel & brass hand tools to fill the strips. It even includes a resizing tool to straiten the strips when necessary & to realign the fingers that hold the cartridges in place. To load feed strips, cartridges were pre-loaded on 5 round stripper clips & loaded into the cartridge placement tool. The feed tool would hand off the rounds into the cartridge feed guide where they were forced down, and into the feed strip. MAGS: 7 brass feed strips. CONDITION: Kit appears to be completely functional. It is quite amazing for a machine gun accessory of this vintage to be so complete and in such nice condition. The brass parts have a light, time earned patina & the steel parts still have a smooth finish w/ very little staining. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Brian Linde. (02-23926-2/JZ). MODERN. $300-500.
