1) This mold measures 10 1/2" in length and is primarily brass with an iron sprue cutter and nut. It was used for casting four 45 cal. round balls with a single pour for use as gallery loads. The top of the mold is marked “U.S. FRANKFORD ARSENAL 1881” and “CAL. .45 H.M”. The mold has two 5” wooden handles with brass ferrules at the top. CONDITION: the mold shows light wear overall, with minor charring from heat on one handle. 2) This mold measures 9" in length and is primarily brass with an iron sprue cutter and nut. It was used for casting five 30 cal. round balls with a single pour for use as gallery loads. The top of the mold is marked “FRANKFORD ARSENAL 1901” and “CAL .30 O.M.L.”. The mold has two 4” wooden handles with brass ferrules at the top. CONDITION: mold shows light wear overall. PROVENANCE: The Collection of Edward Scott Meadows. (02-22113/BF). $200-400.
