1) Pre-WWI French Balloon Mechanics badge measures approx. 2 1/2" x 1 3/4". This pre-1916 badge has a silver-finished wreath with gold-plated wings and star and depicts a pair of bird wings with a central toothed gear and a star above, all superimposed over an oak and laurel leaf wreath. The rear of the badge has a pin attachment and is unmarked. The badge is housed in a dark red leather case with no interior or exterior markings. CONDITION: badge shows light overall wear. (02-22994/BF). 2) WWI era French Balloon Observer's badge measures approx. 2" x 1 5/8". This 1912-1916 badge has a silver finish and depicts a toothed gear with a single bird wing to the right, superimposed over an oak and laurel leaf wreath. The rear of the badge has two loops for attachment and is unmarked. CONDITION: badge shows light to moderate wear overall with some loss of finish. (02-22995/BF). $600-900.
