RIFLE MUSKET. Cal. .58. NSN. Bbl. 40". Approximately 30,000 of these arms were made by Edward Robinson of N.Y. and delivered between June, 1863 and May, 1865. Two leaf rear sight graduated to 500 yards. Stud type front sight. Sight is enhanced in red. Lockplate is marked with eagle over "U.S. E ROBINSON NEW YORK" and dated "1863" at tail. Replacement nipple. Walnut stock with 3 bands retained by springs. Correct tulip head ramrod. Buttplate marked "U.S.". Stock is marked on left panel with partly obscured "244" over "N" over "35". CONDITION: stock has well worn vintage arsenal rework type finish with wear and handling marks throughout. Notable loss of wood at toe. Wrist has extensive repair crack on both sides. Bore has strong rifling with wear and scattered light pitting. (01-24441/RW). ANTIQUE. $200-400.
