ARMY SINGLE ACTION PERCUSSION REVOLVER WITH IRON BACK STRAP. Cal. 44. S# 118771. Bbl. 8". Model 1860 Army single action percussion revolver mfg. by Colt in 1863. Top of the bbl. is marked "-ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-". Left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/ PATENT". Revolver exhibits various sub-inspection proofs, including a "P" on the frame (front face of right recoil shield), "T" on the back strap and trigger guard, "W" on the cyl., and "C" on the cyl. base pin. Brass trigger guard and slotted iron back strap, with 1-piece plain wood grip. Left bottom edge of grip exhibits 5 "kill notches". Frame is cut at the recoil shield to accommodate a stock attachment. Standard German silver blade front sight and hammer notched rear sight. Matching numbers are present on the frame, cyl. base pin, and trigger guard. Bbl. is mismatched (S# 88552), Cyl. and bbl. wedge are unnumbered. Rear grip strap S# is illegible, appearing to read either "113" or "118". Percussion nipples are later replacements, with many marked "COLT" on one side of the flat. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: x2 brown leather holsters. x1 unmarked, x1 marked with the Hunter logo above "1100R 24" on the rear. CONDITION: iron components have faded to a mottled gray patina, with the frame exhibiting some light to mild pitting overall. Bbl. exhibits scattered patches and areas of mild to moderate pitting. Trigger guard has been cleaned at one time, retaining patina in protected areas, and exhibiting scattered handling marks and small dings. Bore exhibits consistent moderate pitting, while retaining good rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grip shows some minor superficial handling marks, with scattered impressions present on the butt, as well as a small chip on the left side at the forward edge. Holsters remain malleable, exhibiting general overall wear, scattered handling marks, and some spots of crazing. (01-29137/MLW). ANTIQUE. $700-1,000.
