FACTORY LETTER. Cal. 44. S# 66380. Bbl. 8" rnd. with German silver blade sight. Address on top of bbl. reads, "-ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA -". Round rebated 6 shot cyl. with naval scene roll engraving. Bbl., frame, trigger guard, cyl. & backstrap all have matching numbers. The wedge is numbered 6682. Inspector's mark "C" is found behind the trigger guard & beside the wedge on the right side. Revolver has an "LL" inspector's stamp beside the wedge on the left side. One piece walnut grips. Right panel has a clearly visible cartouche. 1862 Mfg. during the U.S. Civil War. UNATTACHED ACCESSORY: a Colt factory letter stating that the revolver was shipped to Commanding Officer Lt. Col. G. D. Ramsay in care of Col. D. D. Thompkins in Washington, D.C. on October 4, 1862. There were 1,000 guns in this shipment.
CONDITION: bbl., frame & backstrap finish primarily have a smooth brown finish with a few scattered areas of gray. Nearly 100% visible cyl. Scene with expected scattered light pitting at the front of the cyl. Frame & hammer have noticeable blue remaining. Loading lever is mostly brown. Grips have honest wear with some very light chipping at the base. Action is sound. Bore is near excellent with strong rifling. (01-21353/BF). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,000.
