MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 623340. Bbl. 24" w/ inverted marking "S-A-4-42". Barrel appears to be period correct for 1942 manufacture date of receiver. Rifle has no visible import marks. Throat gauges 5.0. Muzzle gauges 7.0. All visible major parts markings are "SA" including operating rod w/o stress relief notch. Locking bar aperture rear sight w/ battle range elevation knob. Blade front sight w/ protective ears. Milled trigger guard. Single slot gas cyl. lock screw. Short fork follower rod. Walnut stock set. Stock set has no visible markings. CONDITION: stock set has added varnish over extensive wear, staining, handling marks & missing chips. Handguards have notably large cracks on top. Front handguard is missing two very large chips on each side at bottom. Metal turning gray & patina w/ extensive wear & numerous areas of shallow pitting throughout. Worn bore w/ extensive oxidation.
