CODE P.38 SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH HOLSTER & CAPTURE PAPERWORK. Cal. 9x19mm. S# 6960i. Bbl. 4 7/8". P.38 semi-automatic pistol mfg. by Walther in 1944. Left side of the slide is marked "P.38", followed by the S#, as well as Walther's mfg. code and the 2-digit year of mfg. "ac 44", with 2 Walther Eagle/359 proofs and an eagle firing proof marked on the right. Metal components exhibit a salt blue finish overall, with the frame exhibiting a mellow plum colored appearance. Frame is mounted with 2-piece grooved brown pressed resin grips. Dovetailed blade front sight with U-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, slide, bbl., and locking block. MAGS: 2 blued 8-rd. mags., 1 with a Walther Eagle/359 proof on the spine, the other unproofed. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: a copy of the capture paperwork listing this gun by S#, indicating that it was captured and brought back by James L. White Sr., dated "Oct, 9, 1945". This example is also accompanied by a black leather holster mfg. by Franz und Karl Vogels Lederwarenfabrik, marked "ewx/ 1944" above an Eagle/WaA195" on the rear. Interior of closure flap is marked with what appears to read "Gefr. Heinz Simke/ (mostly illegible text) Pnr. 2734i" above James White's signature, Army S#, and address. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original arsenal salt blue finish, showing some light to mild edge wear and some scattered spots of light surface oxidation overall. Grip strap and frame spur have faded to a mostly gray patina. Very bright bore, exhibiting a few spots of very light to light pitting and a small spot of dark mild pitting towards the muzzle, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics, including the safety / decocking lever. Grips show some superficial marks and a few light chips overall. Holster remains malleable, exhibiting scattered marks from handling and storage, with some spots/areas of light to mild age related cracking and crazing. A nice example of a desirable U.S.G.I. bringback P.38 pistol, complete with capture paperwork and G.I. signed holster. (25-4583/MLW). CURIO. $2,000-3,000.
