Cal. 54. S# NSN. Bbl. 8 1/2" smooth bore w/ rnd. bbl. & brass blade front sight. Approx. 10,000 of these percussion pistols were made by Ira N. Johnson at Middleton, Conn. The pistols were also made by Henry Aston at the Palmetto Armory of Columbia, SC & were made from 1845-1852. Lock plate marked horizontally "US I.N.JOHNSON" & marked vertically behind hammer "MIDDTN / CONN / 1854"; dated "1854" on breech plug tang. Bbl. marked on top "U.S. JCB P"; marked on left side "STEEL". All brass furniture. Swivel ramrod. Walnut stock marked on left side w/ 2 government inspector cartouches. CONDITION: stock set has moderate wear & handling marks throughout w/ added finish. Approx. 2 1/2" crack on left side extending from breech under sideplate. Brass has cleaned appearance leaving scattered sm. handling marks throughout. Balance of metal turning gray w/ spots of patina & scattered sm. handling marks. Bore is dark w/ light oxidation & very fine pitting. (01-23079/RW). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
