MILITARY SNIPER RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 1469341. Bbl. 24" marked on the right side "S-A-6-52". Throat gauges 1.0. Muzzle gauges .5. T105E1 aperture rear sight. Blade front sight w/ protective ears. All visible parts markings are "SA". The M1D Sniper rifle was designed at Springfield Armory by John Garand in mid WWII but not put into production until the Korean War. This example features a quality reproduction scope mt. The attaching screw has the correct 50 clicks. Original M84 telescopic sight w/ untapered vertical post & horizontal crosshair. Scope nomenclature plate on right side attached by 2 screws is marked "TELESCOPE / (M84) / SERIAL NO. 31041." Flip up turret covers are present. Sliding sunshade is present at forward end. Base appears to be correct arsenal installation. Receiver has correct 2 tone annealed finish. Milled trigger guard has "C-46025-1" drawing no. Walnut stock set. Buttstock is marked on left side behind grip w/ boxed "S.A." overhaul mark & marked under grip w/ encircled "P" proof. Stock has inletted walnut repair at rear of trigger guard, visible only when rifle is disassembled. CONDITION: stock set has light wear, staining plus handling marks w/ arsenal rework type finish. Metal has a large degree of original finish on the receiver while the operating rod, barrel & gas cyl. have a dark arsenal rework parkerization. Blued steeled telescope has light wear & scattered tiny scratches. Optics appear clear & serviceable. Very good shiny bore w/ sharp lands. (23-5722/RW). CURIO. $1,200-1,800.
