REVOLVER, HOLSTER AND BELT. This belt dates to approximately 1892 which is the year the 38 cal. revolver was adopted. This belt is similar to that shown on page 760 of U.S. MILITARY HOLSTERS AND RELATED ACCOUTREMENTS by Edward Scott Meadows. 1) Black leather holster is embossed on front of body with "U.S.". Belt loop is marked on back "LANZ, OWEN & CO." / "CHICAGO". Unmarked flap is secured by brass finial. Holster has riveted & stitched construction. Plug at tip has drain hole. CONDITION: holster has moderate wear & flexing. Stitching & rivets are tight. Markings are legible. 2) Blue Mills web belt w/ rectangular brass eagle belt plate. Belt plate is marked on tongue "ANSON MILLS PAT. FEB. 1, 81". Ends of belt have leather hems. Belt has forty five 38 cal. loops. Has brass wire holster mt. plus two brass mounted web saber straps. One strap is marked "PAT. MILLS & ORNDORFF". There is an additional sm. brass hook mounted near the short saber strap. CONDITION: the belt plate has moderate wear turning patina with traces of the original finish in protected areas. The belt is in lightly worn condition w/ tight stitching & notable sm. area of white near the top center edge. PROVENANCE: The Collection of Edward Scott Meadows. (02-22077/RW). $1,000-2,000.
