HARPER'S FERRY WITH SECOND STYLE BAYONET ADAPTATION. Cal. 54. NSN. Bbl. 33" rnd., fitted w/ long range sight & second style bayonet lug w/ short brass front band. Breech end of bbl. stamped "W.W" & w/ "V", "P" & eagle proofs. Bbl. tang stamped "1851". Percussion lock stamped w/ eagle over "US" in front of hammer marked "HARPERS FERRY 1851" on tail. Brass mounted walnut stock does not have any noted inspectors marks. Brass buttplate has rack no. "E.32" on top tang. Stock attaches to bbls. w/ 2 brass spring retained bands. CONDITION: good as cleaned. Steel parts are mostly pewter gray w/ splotches of oxidation. Markings are clear. Stock has old oil refinish over numerous dents & marks, details rounded. Brass once cleaned is toning to dark gold. Fine bore, strong rifling throughout. Lock is fine. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of James B. Taylor. (01-20481/MGM). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
