Cal. 45-70. S #188914. Bbl. 22". Rear of Bbl. has Springfield proofs. Breechblock marked "US MODEL 1873". Five pointed star next to serial number. Lockplate marked w/ eagle, "U.S.", "SPRINGFIELD" & "1873". Carbine marked rear sight graduated to 800yds. Blade front sight. Saddle bar w/ ring present on left side. Walnut stock w/ faint circled P firing proof but no visible inspector cartouche. CONDITION: walnut stock retains much arsenal oil finish w/ added five notches on top of comb, some chipping at toe, scattered dings, handling marks & scratches. Breechblock shows traces of case colors w/ scattered oxidation. Balance of metal shows scattered oxidation most notably along the bbl. w/ lockplate & bottom metal retaining strong original blue. Fair bore w/ scattered pitting & frosting. (01-21168/MJC). ANTIQUE. $600-1000.
