The top of the bbl. is marked with Colt's single line address. Left side of the frame is marked with Colt's 3-line patent information followed by "U.S". Frame, cyl., bbl., and left side butt of grip are marked with "R.A.C." (Rinaldo A. Carr) inspection proofs. Bbl. and cyl. are marked with "P" proofs, with a "K" proof marked on the trigger guard, rear rear strap, and front face of the ejector rod housing. Frame, hammer, and loading gate exhibit a case colored finish, with bbl., ejector rod housing, cyl., trigger guard, rear grip strap, and frame screws exhibiting a blue finish. Trigger is nitre blued. Right side of grip is stamped with a mostly legible "1ST/ 86 NY" (indicating issue to the New York Militia) above a boxed "RAC" cartouche, which is extremely similar to 2 New York Militia SAA grips pictured on page 138 of "Colt Cavalry & Artillery Revolvers", by John A. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Colt factory letter indicating that this example was shipped to the United States Government (Delivered to U.S. Government Inspector at the Colt Plant) on July 3, 1890 in a shipment of 150 same type guns. CONDITION: frame, hammer, and loading gate retain fair to good amounts of their original case colored finish, showing areas of fading to gray patina and some light pitting, with some spots of stronger case coloring remaining in protected areas. Blued parts retain large amounts of their original finish, showing areas of wear and thinning that show through to gray patina, with scattered superficial marks present overall. Forward portion of the left side of the bbl. and front grip strap exhibit some striations from prior cleaning. Action functions appropriately when cycled by hand. Near mirror bore, exhibiting some small scattered spots of light surface oxidation/pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grip shows wear, as well as scattered marks and minor impressions beneath an old added layer of varnish, with the right side exhibiting a chip at the toe. An attractive example of a New York Militia marked Colt Single Action Army Cavalry Model revolver. PROVENANCE: The Esteemed Norm Greenberg Collection. (01-27623/MLW). ANTIQUE. $5,000-8,000.
