PISTOL. Cal. 54. S# NSN. 8 1/2" smooth bore, rnd. bbl. w/ fixed oval rear sight & brass blade front sight. Double neck hammer, brass pan, lockplate marked "US / RJOHNSON MIDDEN CONN / 1842". Bbl. marked on top "US. JH P". Marked on left side w/ tiny "B". Approx. 41,000 of these pistols were made & later converted to percussion. All iron furniture; bbl. band retained by sideplate. Swivel ramrod. Walnut stock marked on left side w/ crisp "WAT" (William A. Thornton) cartouche. CONDITION: stock has nice appearing original finish w/ crisp cartouche plus does have a degree of handling wear commensurate w/ a firearm of this age. Notable sm. cracks in front & rear of lockplate. Metal retains notable degree of original brown finish turning gray & patina w/ notable wear on backstrap. Lock appears to function correctly. Good shiny bore w/ scattered spots of very fine pitting.
