RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 3011026. Bbl. 24". Barrel marked behind front sight "RA / flaming bomb / 12-41". Rifle was manufactured by Remington on machinery leased from the government Rock Island Arsenal. Ladder rear sight without volley notch. Parts marked "R". Blade front sight with protective cover, which is marked "flaming bomb / US". Bolt handle is marked "R" and "42" underneath. Bolt has the machine-marks around the safety lug resembling Model 1903-A3 production. Shroud, safety, trigger guard and magazine cutoff marked "R". All milled furniture including smooth trap buttplate. Straight grip walnut buttstock is replacement from Model 1903-A3 rifle. Stock is marked on the left side with "crossed cannons" and boxed "FJA". Encircled "P" proof under grip. Legible assembly marks ahead of trigger guard tang. Handguard is standard Model 1903 type. CONDITION: stock set has a well-worn arsenal rework finish, rendering the markings somewhat faint. There is a neat inletted repair at toe of stock. Metal parts have a hobbyist gunsmith type refinish with notable polishing and varying shades of blue. Receiver has a notable plum hue. Bore has a good degree of shine with lightly worn lands and light frosting in the grooves. PROVENANCE: Estate of Bernard L.A. Ayotte. (25-7019/RW). CURIO. $700-1,000.
