Cal. 54. S# NSN. Bbl. 8 1/2" smooth bore rnd. bbl. w/ fixed oval rear sight on top tang & fixed brass blade front sight. Approx. 41,000 of these Model 1836 flintlock pistols were mfg. between 1836 & 1844 by Asa Waters of Middlebury MA. & Robert Johnson of Middletown, CN. Lockplate is marked "U.S. R.JOHNSON / MIDDEN CONN / 1838". Lockplate has brass pan & double neck hammer. Bbl. is marked on top "U.S. LFP" & marked on left side w/ tiny "F". Iron furniture including bbl. band secured by sideplate; swivel ramrod; walnut stock w/ 2 obscured inspector markings. CONDITION: refinished stock set has light wear, scattered handling marks & slight loss of wood in inletted areas. Crack on left side extending to sideplate screw. Bright metal now turning gray has added cold blue type finish w/ wear, fine pitting & handling marks. Lock appears to function correctly. Bore has dark oxidized appearance w/ fine pitting throughout.
