1898 BOLT ACTION MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-40 Krag. S# 104166. Bbl. 30". Model 1901 ladder rear sight graduated to 2000 yards. Blade front sight. Bayonet lug and stacking swivel are present. Walnut stock and handguard. Stock is marked on left side with a boxed "JSA" and "1898" marked under the grip with an encircled "P" proof. Smooth trap buttplate. Correct unmarked tan leather sling with single brass hook. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: three-piece cleaning rod and nickel-plated oiler in butt. Lot also includes an 11 5/8" fullered blade bayonet, marked on the left ricasso "1901". Marked on right ricasso "US". Smooth walnut grips secured by two rivets. Steel scabbard with steel belt hook. Bayonet has moderate wear with light oxidation turning gray. Grips have an added gloss finish. Scabbard has thinning and scattered pitting with small dents. CONDITION: stock set has thinning, moderately worn original finish with scattered handling marks. Metal retains 80% of its original finish with thinning and wear. Receiver, sideplate, and mag. gate have a notable mottled, case-hardened appearance. Good shiny bore with lightly worn lands. PROVENANCE: from the lifelong collection of Jim Williams. (01-25848/RW).
