TRAPDOOR SINGLE SHOT MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 58 Rimfire. NSN. Bbl. unmarked 29 1/2". Flip-up rear sight with single aperture. Sight retaining screwhead is missing. Stud type front sight. Unmarked breech block. Thumb-latch is missing. Lock does not seat fully in-place. Firing pin is frozen in forward position. Unmarked flat lockplate. Replacement walnut stock does not show arsenal quality fitting. Two-piece trigger guard. U.S. marked buttplate. Replacement tulip-head ramrod. Ramrod does not remove readily from rifle. CONDITION: stock set has light wear with scattered small handling marks. Notable crack in the area of thin wood between breech block and lockplate. Filled hole on left side in-front of lower band, likely from wandering drill during fitting of band spring. Metal has cleaned appearance turning gray with spots of oxidation and fine pitting. Bore has prominent rifling, but dark oxidized appearance. (01-28944/RW). ANTIQUE. $250-350.
