SINGLE SHOT TRAPDOOR RIFLE. Cal. 58 RF. NSN. Bbl. 37 3/4" with rifling bore. Fixed front sight with folding leaf rear sight. Upward pivoting breechblock is released by right side thumb latch. "1864" dated Springfield lock. 3-band walnut stock with iron fittings. Tulip tipped ramrod. Approx. 5,000 altered at Springfield from percussion muskets. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: wood muzzle plug. CONDITION: bbl., lockplate, and fittings are cleaned bright. Hammer, action, and breechblock have a faded light gray appearance. Stock shows wear with numerous dents and marks. Functioning lock and action. Bore retains intact rifling having a bulge approx. 12" from the muzzle. (01-27227/DS). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,800.
