TRAPDOOR RIFLE. Cal. 50-70. S# 3303. Bbl. 29 5/8" finished in-the-white. Fixed front sight with graduated leaf rear sight. Blue finished action has "1870" dated high arch breechblock. Case colored "1864" dated lock. 2-band stock with in-the-white iron fittings. Left stock ear has a clear "ESA" cartouche referring to principle inspector Erskin S. Allin. Slotted tip ramrod. Total estimated quantity 3,422 mfg. from 1869-1876. CONDITION: bbl. and fittings retain in-the-white finish showing spotted light surface corrosion and marks. Action has dull fading blue. Lock retains small amounts of visible case colors. Original wood finish shows scratches, marks, and dents. Sound lock and action. Bore is generally bright with strong rifling showing small spots of light pitting. (01-27230/DS). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
