MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. S# 430751. Bbl. 32 1/2". Assembled from parts of various models of trapdoor rifles. Model 1879 carbine rear sight graduated to 1500 yds. Marked "C" on left side & has the "B" "rolling fire" mark. Blade front sight. Low arch 1884 dated breech block w/ aluminum firing pin. Flat lockplate marked w/ "eagle" & "U.S. SPRINGFIELD 1873". Two bands. Lower band retained by spring. Upper band retained by paper shims plus has sling & stacking swivels. Model 1878 ramrod. Walnut stock adapted from earlier rifle has filled band spring area on the right side approx. 11 1/2" above the lower band. No ramrod retaining spring is fitted. Nose cap retained by copper rivet. Unmarked stock has wood filler piece on right side under breechblock. Model 1884 "U.S." marked buttplate. Swinging door assemble is not present & stock is not drilled. 2 piece trigger guard w/ repaired bow. Swivel is not present. CONDITION: stock has been completely refinished w/ wear scratches & handling marks throughout. Worn metal has partial thinning reblue w/ scattered spot of light oxidation. Very good shiny bore w/ sharp lands. (01-24511/RW). ANTIQUE. $300-500.
