MILITARY RIFLE. CAL. 45-70. S# 58969. Bbl. 32". Low arch breech block dated "1873". Buffington rear sight marked "R" on the top right corner. Blade front sight. Flat lock plate marked "U.S. SPRINGFIELD" "eagle". 3 Click tumbler. Replacement hammer. 2 Piece trigger guard. Bbl. retained by 2 bands. Upper band w/ sling & stacking swivels. Ramrod is not present. Ramrod retaining spring does not move. Long comb walnut stock has boxed "SWP" inspector's mark. Stock has sm. stamped rack # on both sides of butt. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 18" blade. Model 1873 socket bayonet marked "U.S.". Bayonet has traces of blue w/ oxidation & fine pitting throughout. CONDITION: stock has well worn finish w/ numerous scratches & handling marks w/ chipping issues at bottom of lockplate. Sm. crack behind lockplate. 2 Lg. missing chips on both sides of receiver tang. Metal has traces of blue turning gray & patina w/ oxidation & fine pitting throughout. Breech block latch is notably worn. Dark oxidized fitted bore. (01-25240/RW). CURIO. $500-800.
