MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. S# 332740. Bbl. 32 1/2". Receiver mfg. 1886. Model 1879 rear sight. Sight is marked "R" on left forward end. Has "B" "rolling fire" marking. Graduations have been removed from sight ladder. Blade front sight. Breechblock w/ low arch reading 1878. Firing pin tip is not present. Flat lockplate marked w/ "U.S. SPRINGFIELD" & "eagle". 3 position tumbler. Long comb walnut stock marked only on left side of cheek area "PCG" / "B69". Two bands retained by springs. Upper band has sling & stacking swivels. "U.S." marked buttplate. Two piece trigger guard w/ sling swivel. Model 1878 ramrod. CONDITION: stock shows heavy wear w/ scratches & handling marks. Notable deep scratches on left side of butt at heel. Stock has been given a thick coating of added varnish. Metal has turned mostly patina w/ oxidation & wear. Lockplate is notably gray. Bore turning dark in grooves w/ worn lands. (01-24439/RW). ANTIQUE. $200-400.
