MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. S# 358844. Bbl. 32 1/2". Buffington rear sight marked "R" graduated to 1400 yds. Blade front sight. Receiver ring has approx. 7/16" tall marking resembling Roman numeral 1. Breech block is dated 1884. Aluminum bronze firing pin. Flat lockplate marked w/ "US SPRINGFIELD 1873" & "eagle". 3 Click tumbler. Long comb walnut stock. Markings have been rendered obscure due to arsenal rework type finish. Two bands retained by springs. Upper band has sling & stacking swivels. Incorrect replacement ramrod. "US" marked buttplate. Two piece trigger guard w/ sling swivel. CONDITION: stock has wear & handling marks throughout w/ slight loss of wood in inletted areas. Metal has turned overall gray & patina w/ areas of polishing & rebluing. Buttplate, nose cap & band springs are polished bright. Bore turning dark w/ worn lands & scattered pitting throughout. (01-24514/RW). ANTIQUE. $300-500.
