MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. S# 363384. Bbl. 32 1/2". Rifle has had the receiver, bbl. breech block, bayonet, sights & bands chrome plated, plus the stock given a dark stain finish possibly for parade or theatrical use. Buffington rear sight marked "R". Blade front sight. Breech block dated 1884. Aluminum bronze firing pin has had tip removed. Flat lockplate marked "US SPRINGFIELD" & "eagle". Long comb walnut stock w/ obscured acceptance & proof marks. Stamp in left side cheek area w/ "W". Two bands retained by springs. Stacking & sling swivels are present. Shortened model 1878 ramrod. "US" marked buttplate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 16 1/4" triangular blade bayonet marked "US". Clamp screw is missing from retaining ring. CONDITION: stock is heavily worn w/ numerous handling marks throughout. 1" Crack on left side behind lockplate. Missing chip on left side at grip. Metal was plated over pitting. Plating is worn & shows oxidation. Dark oxidized worn bore. (01-24525/RW). ANTIQUE. $200-400.
