SINGLE SHOT MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. S# 533572. Bbl. 32 1/2''. Buffington rear sight graduated to 1400 yds. marked "R". Blade front sight. "1884" dated Breech block. Aluminum bronze firing pin. Flat lockplate marked "US SPRINGFIELD" & "eagle". 3 Click tumbler. 35 1/2" Blue steel rod bayonet threaded for wiping tip. Long comb walnut stock marked on left side w/ boxed "SWP 1891" & under grip w/ faint encircled script "P" proof. Right side of butt inscribed w/ "43" / "86" & in sm. letters "43 RD SEPT CO". Two bands retained by springs. Upper band carries sling & stacking swivels. One piece trigger guard w/ sling swivel. Buttplate w/ swinging trap. Marked on top w/ "US 86". CONDITION: stock has worn original finish w/ scattered handling marks throughout. Sm. crack behind receiver tang. Circular depression on left side by lock screw. Partly detached sliver of wood along ramrod bayonet channel. Metal has traces of original blue turning over all gray & patina w/ wear & handling marks. Bore is turning dark in the grooves w/ scattered, moderate sized pitting throughout. (01-24304/RW). ANTIQUE. $500-800.
