MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-40 Krag. S# 137220. Bbl. 25 7/8". Rifle has been shortened, likely as a cadet rifle for school use. Stock & bbl. were shortened. The upper band reinstalled for the forend. The lightning cut has a wood filler. The blade front sight is mounted in a band similar to a Model 1903 sight. The rear sight is a Model 1896 type graduated to 1,800 yards. The walnut stock set has been given an arsenal rework finish w/ a softening of edges notable at the grasping grooves. The boxed acceptance mark is very faint as is the encircled "P" script proof. Smooth trap buttplate. Unmarked brown leather Model 1907 style sling. CONDITION: stock has light wear & numerous handling marks w/ an arsenal rework type finish. Metal retains a large amount of its arsenal rework blue finish w/ a bright bolt body. Lightly worn bore w/ strong lands. (25-2203/RW). MODERN. $500-800.
