SHORTENED MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-40 Krag. S# 173546. Bbl. 23 3/4". Rifle likely shortened for school or cadet use. Rifle has been shortened and front sight replaced by a screw-in post, the threads of which extend into the bore. Model 1902 tangent rear sight with sliding peep. Bolt assembly is not present. Walnut stock set. Upper band has been replaced at tip of forend, but leaves the lightening channel open. Flat trap buttplate with curved toe. WWI era leather sling in fair worn condition. CONDITION: stock set has arsenal rework type finish with staining and handling marks. Notable missing chip of wood between bolt handle seat and rear of magazine. Notable crack rearward from magazine on right side. Small crack behind receiver tang. Handguard has crack extending from rear sight to barrel band. Forend tip is open under barrel. Metal has turned overall gray and patina with light oxidation and wear. Shiny bore with lightly worn lands. (26-1357/RW). MODERN. $300-450.
