ACTION RIFLE 22 HORNET CONVERSION. Cal. 22 Hornet. S# 289781. Bbl. 23 3/4". The rifle was converted from its original configuration to a single shot 22 Hornet caliber by lining a Model 1903 Springfield 30 caliber barrel dated "1909" with a 22 caliber liner. The conversion consists of removal of the magazine and follower parts, as well as, the magazine cutoff. The extractor has been lengthened with the replacement hook riveted to the extractor body. Receiver has been drilled on the left side with two screws, likely for scope mount. Barrel is drilled over chamber for scope block. Adjustable open sporting rear sight. Front sight base is from a 1903 Springfield and sporting blade added. Walnut sporting type stock with raised cheekpiece and notably high comb. Stock has black tip installed with hobbyist gunsmith type workmanship. The stock covers the recesses for the original sideplate and magazine in the action area. Stock has a 22 Hornet cartridge base inletted on cheekpiece and is marked in cheekpiece "7th Ohio". Flat steel buttplate. Non-detachable sling swivels. Barrel is secured in forend with an internal band similar to those found on vintage Krag sporter conversions. CONDITION: stock has moderate wear with scattered handling marks.
