RECEIVER. S# 1526931. Barrel is not present, but most additional parts to assemble a complete rifle are. The receiver has the appearance of an added digit or digits to the serial number as has been done to create a "High Number Springfield". The receiver and bolt have had extensive welds removed from what was likely a drill rifle. The welds were made inside the magazine well to make the receiver and bolt one solid unit and were later removed by extensive grinding. The welding would likely have altered the heat treatment of both receiver and bolt. Receiver has two holes drilled and tapped on top of the ring. Holes have been plugged. Cutoff and trigger assembly are functional. Complete unmarked bolt with straight down handle. Magazine spring and follower are not present. Ladder rear sight and windage screw and blade front sight with two piece base is present. Large bow stamped "REMINGTON / 03-A3 / TRIGGER GUARD" with guard screws. Straight grip "S" type walnut stock with handguard. All milled furniture including smooth trap buttplate. Buttplate has the chiseled indentations common on the rifles used by the United States Marine Corps. CONDITION: stock set has an arsenal rework finish with loss of wood in inletted areas and extensive wear, staining and handling marks throughout. Notable large chip missing from right heel. Notable cracks at buttplate tang, receiver tang and front of handguard. Metal furniture has a worn parkerized finish. Trigger guard retains 50% of its blued finish. Receiver and bolt has a moderately parkerized finish. Grinding due to removal of welds, appearing hurriedly done and is in the white. (25-2859/RW). MODERN. $200-300.
